Join SFC and REI for a day on the McKenzie! Our Annual BBQ with the first Open Preserve Day of the Season will be held Saturday November 2, 2019 on the beautiful McKenzie Preserve.
Generously sponsored by REI, they’ll be on site offering classes and a trail mix bar!
Enjoy special activities, free hiking to the tabletop or along the Discovery Trail. Trail maps will be provided and docents will be stationed along the way for questions and to lend their expertise about this amazing Preserve and it’s unique ecological, geological and natural history.
Schedule:
- Open Preserve 9 AM to 4 PM – hike on your own from the Discovery Trail to the Table Top – guides and maps will be available (no Registration Needed)
- Free hiking all day with the BBQ ready to be served around 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM (Lunch for purchase, see below)
- Nature Journaling with Christann Roy from 9:30 to 11:30 AM
- Yoga on the Preserve with Katie from Coil Yoga from 10:30 to 11:30 AM
- Get your Tap On! The famous Tap Truck with beer generously donated by Tioga Sequoia Brewery will be on site serving amazing local brews from 11 AM to 4 PM
- Birds of Prey Demonstration with Cat Kroschell from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at the Amphitheater!
- Docent Sara Barnett will be at the archaeological site on the McKenzie to answer questions
- Enjoy REI’s signature Trail Mix Bar, and super fun outdoor games ALL DAY!
Lunch is available for $10 per meal which will include your choice of Tri-Tip, Chicken or a grilled Portobello Mushroom, salad, roll, dessert and drinks. We are actively seeking sponsorships for this event – please consider becoming a sponsor, then all lunch ticket donations will be dedicated to the stewardship work on SFC preserves! See registration form for details. Also we are excited to have the Tap Truck on site to provide local beer and wine, along with other non-alcoholic options.

- Gates close promptly at 4 PM – all hiking on the preserve must be concluded before that time and all participants must be safely off the Preserve.
- No Dogs are allowed on our Preserves with the exception of documented Service Animals. Please see our Visiting the Preserves page for more detailed information!
- Our Events are RAIN or SHINE – Sierra Foothill Conservancy regards the safety of our participants on our Preserves very highly so in the case of severe weather or the possibility of adverse impact on the land or the hike experience we reserve the right to cancel.
- One of the conditions of your participation does specifically release Sierra Foothill Conservancy, hold harmless as the owners of the property, and any of its employees or agents representing or related to hikes, classes, or projects offered by Sierra Foothill Conservancy while on the Property from any claims or liabilities of any kind whatsoever, arising from or related to my participation in these activities.
