SFC and the Central Sierra Historical Society have joined forces to offer a weekend series unveiling the exciting story of the SJ&E railroad! Please join us for one or both of the opportunities (March 24 & 25, 2018) that will be offered this season.

The History of the SJ&E Railroad On the McKenzie Preserve

Sunday March 25, 2018     10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Join local historian Norm Saude on a hike through time to explore the old railroad system and learn about the stories that shaped local history. Find out about the San Joaquin & Eastern Railroad which operated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada of Fresno County.

This easy to moderate hike, on the McKenzie Discovery Trail, travels along part of the old railroad bed. Bring water, snacks, or lunch and enjoy this 4 mile journey.

Special Note:  Please be aware that this is a guided hike and participants will not have the ability to enter and exit the property at their leisure. If you do not wish to hike with a docent or you are unable to commit to the time frame scheduled, you may consider visiting our preserves during an Open Preserve Day where there are fewer constraints.

Cost is FREE to Members, $10 per individual Non-Member or $20 for non-member Households. Join Sierra Foothill Conservancy TODAY and be able to attend as many hikes and classes during our season for free! JOIN HERE
