Upper Finegold Creek Watershed

Free Fire Safety Survey

The Millerton Area Watershed Coalition (MAWC) is offering to conduct a fire safety survey for interested landowners within the Upper Finegold Creek watershed.  This survey is being offered at no charge on a first come, first served basis.  The survey will include safety of structures – as well as the vegetation type and amount of fuel load on the land. Funding has been made possible by a grant from the CALFED Bay-Delta Watershed Program to restore ecological health and improve water management by working with the community at a watershed level

The impact of uncontrolled fire has increasingly become an economic and environmental problem in California.  More and more of our rangeland and forest areas in the Sierra Nevada are being impacted, creating problems for forage, timber, and water quality.  The devastating effect of fire in our foothill communities are a threat to public safety and health – placing at risk life, structures and other property.

This survey will be provided at no cost to landowners through the training and employment of youths from our local communities.  Professional foresters and fire prevention officers from the US Forest Service and California Department of Forestry have trained these individuals from our local communities in developing skills in resource management – and as a way to provide temporary job opportunities – such as conducting this survey.

This offer is limited to landowners who respond on a first come first served basis.  If you are interested in this service and would like to sign up please contact: Steve Haze, Program Coordinator – 855-5840.

Funding for this project has been provide in full or in part through an Agreement with State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) pursuant to the Costa-Machado Water Act of 2000 (Proposition 13) and any amendments thereto for the implementation of California’s Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Program.  The contents of this document do not necessarily reflect the views and policies of the SWRCB, nor does mention of trade names or commercial products constitute endorsement or recommendation for use.
